Mitsubishi Motors' ASX Named as a Top Safety Pick
TOKYO, JAPAN – March 22, 2012: Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) has announced that the 2012 ASX was named a Top Safety Pick by the United States' Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) non-profit vehicle research and crash test ratings agency.
The ASX is Mitsubishi Motors’ second vehicle to achieve Top Safety Pick status, joining the 2012 Lancer compact sport sedan on the elite list of cars to score the IIHS's highest marks for vehicle crash testing.
For a production vehicle to be named a Top Safety Pick by the IIHS, it
must earn a "good" rating across all of the organisation's crash test
evaluations. The 2012 Mitsubishi ASX received a "good" test score in the
following key areas:
Contributing to the ASX’s high rating were the use of high-tensile steel sheets which deliver reduced weight and increased crash safety. Safety in the ASX was also increased through optimising the body structure and the inclusion of driver's knee airbags.
This is not the first time Mitsubishi’s compact crossover has been recognised for its outstanding safety. The ASX received a five-star crash safety rating, the highest rating possible, in 2010 from ANCAP (Australasian New Car Assessment Programme) and in 2011 received the same rating from Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme).
