The United States of America was blessed on July 4, 1776, to announce its Independence, which also signaled the right of all other people with national aspirations to rise up and break their bondage to foreign rulers and delusional autocrats.

America has withered through some difficult storms that threatened to re-impose a yoke on our people. The last four years, under a mentally-impaired huckster and his dictatorial political party, was as grave a threat as our country has ever faced.

But miracles do happen, and lightning can strike twice in the same place. Today, January 20, 2025, America will celebrate its second Independence Day. Treasure this day as it marks a rebirth of American ideals.

What makes the day particularly significant is that it falls on Martin Luther King Day. Dr. King was a great American who fought for the civil rights of all Americans, not just Americans with dark-colored skin. If he were alive today, I believe he would be a guest of honor at the inauguration of our 47th president, Donald Trump.
