President Trump Pulls Plug on Rapid EV Charging Program - Public Citizen

WASHINGTON — The Trump administration on Thursday evening announced it would halt a program intended to build the vital infrastructure needed for the future of transportation in America. In a memo from the Federal Highway Safety Administration, states were ordered to halt spending on the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program intended to build fast EV chargers along highways nationwide. In response, Will Anderson, EV policy advocate with Public Citizen’s Climate Program, issued the following statement:
“Trump’s action to stall EV charging funds hurts American consumers as well as workers installing EV chargers all over the country. State departments of transportation, with input from private business, public utilities, and constituents, have approved plans to use these NEVI funds since passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act in 2021. This attempt by Trump to stifle American innovation in clean energy will only continue to help foreign competitors at the expense of American jobs in both rural and urban communities in every state.”
