Road Trip: Slice on Broadway Wins World's Best Cheese Slice at 2025 International Pizza Expo

LAS VEGAS, March 28, 2025 -- Slice on Broadway, a beloved Pittsburgh-based pizza institution, has officially claimed the title of World's Best Cheese Slice at the 2025 International Pizza Expo in Las Vegas.

Chris Ostapenko, a longtime team member at Slice on Broadway, represented the shop in the highly competitive cheese slice category. With over 100 competitors from around the globe in the first round, Ostapenko secured third place to move into the finals. In the final round, his classic approach and flawless execution earned him the gold medal—and global recognition.

"I made the pizza as I do every day in the pizza shop, and the results paid off," said Ostapenko. His authentic, no-frills technique wowed the judges with perfect balance, texture, and flavor.

Slice on Broadway owner Rico Lunardi shared his excitement: "Chris has been a part of the Slice family for nearly 15 years. I am proud of him and happy for the whole Slice crew to officially say we have the world's best cheese slice."

In a full-circle moment, Lunardi himself competed in the same category at the 2024 Expo, finishing 5th in the world. This year's win is a milestone for the entire team and a testament to their consistent quality and passion.
